The sensitivity and sound quality will noticeably change depending on the distance between the directional microphone and your mouth.
A directional microphone exhibits a pronounced proximity effect—when the microphone is brought closer to the mouth, low frequencies significantly increase as the distance decreases. Therefore, if your vocal tone lacks sufficient bass, you can move the microphone closer to your mouth to compensate for the lack of low-end frequency and enhance the rich, full-bodied sound. Conversely, if your voice sounds too deep and muffled, you can position the microphone farther from your mouth to reduce the proximity effect, thereby diminishing the bass and making your voice clearer.
The distance between the microphone and your mouth significantly affects wind noise and plosive sounds—especially with microphones that have high sensitivity and strong low-frequency response, where wind noise and plosives tend to be more pronounced. To ensure an optimal listening experience, users should adjust the microphone to a comfortable and ideal distance for themselves. (As a general guideline, maintain a proper distance of 10 to 15 centimeters or more, and try to keep the microphone pointed directly at your mouth. When holding a handheld microphone, avoid gripping it near the mesh grille.) Do not cough or blow directly into the microphone; instead, turn your head away and clear your throat gently. Also, please do not blow air onto the microphone, as this could damage the sound pickup capsule. After use, store the microphone in a dry environment, and make sure the microphone’s sound pickup capsule is never exposed to the airflow from a fan or hairdryer.
